Mabel's 911 Tips for Craft Making

Cold Process Soap Trouble Shooting Guide

  • Schedule nail appointments AFTER you have made your candles and products.  Fragrance alone can wipe your polish right off!  In a pinch use nursing gloves.  I schedule nail appointments on Monday morning since there is little waiting time and I do crafts all weekend.

  • Orange oil will get ANY wax or gum off of anything.  I found even commercial products designed for that were expensive and generally worthless.  I even use the orange oil (we now sell) when I wax my own skin to get residue off.  We found some new products on the market claim they have "orange oil" power but they just do not.

  • Never wear clothes you like when making candles.  I buy a large white Oxford shirt meant for a guy (they are always cheaper) and stencil my name on the pocket as a smock.  Works for me!

  • Keep a notepad by your side at all times.  You will accidentally create cool things that you can't recall later how you managed that.

  • Keep your husband out of the house all day when a making any candles or potions.  He will freak when he sees the kitchen and have a clean up plan already in tact:  A flat spatula and lots of orange oil!
