Letter from the Editor:        A Royal Good Time!

The first major news is I am offering our DVD Videos on a PC format that can be e-mailed and more affordable (click here to read that article.)  This is a test run to see how well that works.  I think it will be awesome.

Regarding my trip to London: I heard for quite some time that Europe, specifically the UK indulged in herbal and healing medicines, (quite a few actually,) that we are not allowed to know about in the States.  Mainly, because the pharmaceutical companies were in the States first, as opposed to the UK where well respected herbalist have ruled since time.  Beyond the medicinal quest, I also wanted to see the home of the most elegant bath and toiletry designers, such as L.U.S.H, and Bath and Body Works, that were also founded in the UK, so I had quite an agenda.

My timing could not be better as Napier's had recently acquired Culpeper's, the two largest and most well respected herbal institutions in Europe, with headquarters in London.  Gracious is not the word to begin to describe Napier's/Culpepers.  I aimed to tour many companies and gave no one notice I was coming.   Most companies will simply not allow impromptu filming, if any filming ever at all.  I was extremely fortunate my main focus, Napiers-Culpepers took me in with open arms and toured me for 2 whole days, assigning me personal herbalist interns.  They took great care of me, understanding I was not from that country and pretty vulnerable.  I did not even have to ask for the support.  They handed me support in countless ways and did so sincerely.  A few of my own customers told me to go to the UK in the first place, those who are lucky enough to "see outside the box."

I cannot begin to describe the education I received from Napier/Culpepers.   I will be imparting that over many newsletters.  At every location they were totally hospitable, before they even knew who I was.  This information, in part, I share right on the site at no charge, and at length in my books and videos.  If my customers ever do anything, I hope they at least look at the Napier or Culpeper sites and consider purchasing something, to let them know our gratitude and that we are a great "lobbying" group--as we are tired of the States throwing pills at us. Click here to visit Napier and here to visit Culpepers. Beyond the fact they were so courteous, it is clear they certainly do wish to help people.  Without going into private details of the merger--part of their new corporate merger decisions include examination of the mail order end and we sure want to send a message to keep that intact.  More so since we will use their products, especially those we cannot get here in the United States, and we did just find out about them. I want to send a message to please keep their mail order operation as is--post merger.  Just one small gift from them to us is next. It is their Napier/Culpeper Winter Tea Recipe, very high in antioxidants and healing properties.  On the right is Layla Neal who was my main mentor at Napier/Culpeper.

Simply upon arriving at the Covent Gardens I was greeted with their musical quartet!  A short film clip the the right, but what a Royal Welcome indeed!

Culpepers Winter Tea Recipe by Layla McNeal

Just one small gift from them to us is next. It is their Napier/Culpeper Winter Tea Recipe, very high in antioxidants and healing properties. We all know pomegranate juice is very high in antioxidants and I love it!  But it is expensive, like $10 a quart in the States, so this recipe also allows us a great way to enjoy the juice in a tea and make it last longer. Leane Ketcherside loves Rooibos tea and finds it to be one of the most effective teas on the market. She taught me a lot about this tea, and it was great to hear Culpeper's was very much into it!  Click the left thumbnail to see a very small segment of the film, regarding this tea recipe.

Culpepers Winter Tea Recipe:  Makes 1 Quart

3 Rooibos Tea Bags

3 Rose Hip Tea Tea Bags

1 Cup of Pomegranate Juice

These teas are very easy to find in the grocery store and both well prized in the UK.  Neither has caffeine.  Steep into the boiling teas, in a removable bag:  2 Tablespoons of Cinnamon, 1 Tablespoon of Powdered Ginger, 1 Tablespoon of Cloves, (powdered or whole,) and 1 Tablespoon of Echinacea powder.  Strain well.  For Echinacea powder you may have to open a few capsules.  After straining well, add the pomegranate juice and adjust to taste.

SoHo Smoothie Recipe

As I learned in SoHo, the Oriental Medicine sector of London, Coconut Milk is awesome for the kidneys.  They could not emphasize enough the importance of Coconut Milk and all of its essential fatty acids be incorporated into a daily diet.  I already make my rice with Coconut milk and it gives it a great depth--although not sweet and does not really taste like coconut per se.  This recipe does need a drink mixer to tame the coconut milk.  My all time favorite drink, I make a quart of and love to drink each day is below.  I am positive it will also become your favorite drink along with the Culpepepers Winter Tea Recipe above.

Mabel's SoHo Coconut Pomegranate Smoothie Recipe: Makes 8 Cups

1 Cup of Coconut Milk

1 Cup of Pomegranate Juice

4 Cups of Pineapple and or Cherry Juice

4 Cups of 100% fruit juice (to keep costs down)

Modifying Bath Bombs: Bath Seltzers   AWESOME NEWS!

In a pinch this past holiday, I did not have time or energy to make the ton of  "therapeutic" bath seltzers I planned on making as gifts to friends that work very hard all day.   Friends that hear me talk about making bath stuff--but never quite understood what I do.  I wanted to make them about ten each-so they could have ten awesome nights.  At 4:00 AM Christmas morning, I got up and drove to a pharmacy that had some cheap $1 round bath bombs and some bath salts. I was praying my theory would work and it did!

Just Add Essential Oils to Already Made Commercial Seltzers!

My theory was that I could buy an already made bomb that had the "citric" and the "baking soda" and simply put drops of essential oils on them without them breaking apart.  They did not break apart!  Not even close.  And I was able to do at least 20 drops of essential oils per bath bomb to make them TRULY therapeutic for my friends and awesome.  They came out marvelous.  So fragrant my friends did not want to use them---just leave them open in their bathrooms.  They were so great I took a few back--designated as gifts.  I selfishly felt I need the break also.  I also doctored up the pretty Yardley bath salts by adding a ton of Bulgarian Lavender--which is really cheating in my book when I darn well know how to make pretty salts.

Decorating an Already Made Commercial Bath Seltzer

London blew me away so much with their use of dried floral petals in as many bath products as possible.  More so, the "bath bomb/seltzer."  To the right is a beauty they sell at L.U.S.H.  Click thumbnail to view detail.  Since I do not have a L.U.S.H. right around the corner, I had to see if I could put some dried rose petals, or lavender buds on the already made commercial ones.  The only way to make this stay is to make a hole.  Yes, this technique worked out great also!  I simply took a small sharp object and carved a heart in the bomb. It did not affect the bomb at all.  (I was afraid it would make it cave in.)  When I carved the heart shape out--I used a little melted cocoa butter or soy wax with a small paint brush and quickly put it in the cut out--and quickly inserting the buds before the cocoa butter or soy ax cooled--which is pretty fast.  But that helps secure any decoration on with no problem.  You could even put a cute cake decoration piece on the bomb--which is a popular thing to do these days--such as a hot pink daisy or crème wedding type rose.  Petals and buds are not only beautiful on the product--they are relaxing to watch float around in the bath.

It is cheaper by far to make your own bath bombs--but when in a pinch--this certainly will give you more time to focus on what the bomb does and how it looks than messing with making it.  Below is the long awaited Essential Oil Targeting Chart I forgot to insert in the last newsletter before I flew out to London.  I hope you enjoy it, and YES, you can modify a bit.

Testing On Line Videos

In the past, just a few people who bought my DVD/TV Videos thought the DVD was to go in their PC when they got it.  They were distraught to report to me they had no TV/DVD player.  I never thought about that.  It makes sense.  I do know how to create such for a PC, but I figured if I did that--I may as well deliver immediately, via on line.  Why bother with the mail?  So, I created a few segments and I will sell them in this newsletter to see how they sell.  These will be short form, to the point, and about 30 minutes in 5 minute segments as opposed to one hour TV type.  This is so you do not tie up PC memory on one video.  They will be delivered upon purchase and operate like the Video Clip above in the Culpeper's Tea Recipe.  That will give you an idea if this works for you.  This medium will also give me a fast and affordable way to get my material to the end user--Mabel Customers.  I will continue to sell the TV/DVD formats because schools and youth programs love them so much.  I do recommend you buy the accompanying e-book or spiral bound book to go along with the PC video because they document important notes, charts and formulas.

Gold Bond Secrets and More

The name is "Bond," "Gold Bond."  I cannot believe that ugly mustard-orange colored bottle of medicinal "powder" gets so many rave reviews--but it does.  Customers love it--and pharmacy chains, to such extent they even sell their "own" version using the same atrocious coloration.  Bad taste in color or not--this strategy works for that company.  It stands out like a sore thumb.  BUT, everyone I know says it does work and loves it.  So, I bought a bottle to see why it works so well.  I did not know a major component was zinc oxide, the powder for sun block we just started carrying.  Probably 5% zinc oxide, guessing.

First of all, it states "Medicated" on the powder bottle.  In it, it appears they simply sifted a few drops of the following essential oils in trace amounts, meaning no more than 2%.  Eucalyptus Oil and Menthol Crystals, I am sure powdered finely.  Menthol gives that "cool" sensation.  I cannot say "Talc" is the main ingredient.  I would venture it is 1/2 talc and 1/2 cornstarch.

Chris Rock:  Rocking on the Pharmaceutical Companies

In his hilarious recent stand-up routine, Bigger and Blacker, (well worth buying) (adult) addressing modern day issues, Chris Rock talks about the ubiquitous television drug commercials that “keep naming symptoms till they get one that the viewer’s got." "Sometimes, he says, the ads don’t even tell you what the pill does: You see a lady on a horse or a man in a tub, and they just keep naming symptoms: ‘Are you depressed?’ ‘Are you lonely?’ ‘Do your teeth hurt?’ ” He adds that one commercial he saw went, “Do you go to bed at night and wake up in the morning?”  “They got that one!” he says. “I got that. I’m sick. I need that pill!”

He calls insurance "In case she-it.  In case she-it happens...you better get insurance..at least you can die on a mattress!"

Getting on  roll Chris points out "Doctors don't cure nuthin anymore...they don't cure she-it...in fact the last thing they cured was Polio and Doctors are still ticked off they did that!" He goes on to say "they are Neeeever gonna cure AIDS.  Neeever gonna cure it.  Don't even dream it.  They make money on the come back, they ain't never gonna do it.  They will figure out a way for us to "live with it" using the pharmaceutical drugs.  Again, "their still ticked off they solved Polio."  There a bunch a high class drug pushers. "So with AIDS they will handle it like they handle everything else."  Pill(s).

"They got metal on the space shuttle that can withstand 20,000 degrees, but they  can't make a Cadillac where the bumper won't fall off?  They just aint never gonna do it."  So, that is just a fraction of Rock's roll and the best part of his delivery is, all of it is true.
